Academic Language Written Assessment Week 38 6/6

In my opinion video games should not be part of the school curriculum. An aspect of why I think this should not be available is what it does to kids at home. Kids at home get addicted to video and they soon loose interest in going outside and doing something physical. This brings consequences like, gaining weight, have health problems, and they stop doing school work. I think the same would happen at school. Even though video games have cool features, i think we should stick to books.

Are sweatshops a violation of human rights? In my opinion I think sweatshops are a violation of human rights for the following reasons: sweatshops don't have a contract saying that they will have medical insurance so if they were to lose an arm they wouldn't be covered. My second reason is that usually they would have kids working on these shops, so not only does this apply to adults but also children as well. And last but not least, it is bad labor. The workers don't get paid well enough for what their doing and they are probably not treated like they should be treated.

In my opinion I don't think teachers should eliminate D grades. I think a letter D grade is a way for teachers to compensate so that the student will see that they're not failing but they still need to improve in their grade. Also, the initial problem is that students are failing in their classes so the D grade keeps them from failing so easily, it gives them more time to improve in their work so that that D turns into a C. In conclusion, I don't think the D grade should be eliminated, teachers should just interact with the student and help them raise their grade up.

I don' think that parents should face jail time because they didn't attend their kids conference. The reason why I think this is because sometimes parents can't make it to the conferences for very valid reasons. Maybe they couldn't make it because of their job? Or maybe they couldn't make it because their car broke down, and they couldn't be transferred by a tow truck.In general maybe the parents didn't have the resources. I think that schools should seek other things to do besides arresting parents for not being at conferences.

If I could fly whenever I wanted I would probably have so much fun. I would fly with birds and I would travel to other countries. Also I think it would make life easier since it would make chores and grocery shopping easier. Being able to fly would be something great for the environment too,because if I could fly I wouldn't need a car.

Should schools eliminate D grades? In my opinion I don't think so. D grades are one step away from an F. F's are bad because they're like a zero D's at least are something but a zero. Initially students shouldn't be having bad grades in the first place so parent's need to interact with their kid and tell them that they need to work harder.Also, I think D grades help the student's compensate so that feel that having a D is better than an F.

JCCS Academic Language Assessment Week 28 - Truant Students

Should Global Positioning System (GPS) devices be required for habitually truant students?   I think it shouldn't. In my opinion chipping someone with a GPS just seem a little too irrational. I think for this for many reasons; for example, to be chipped by someone so they know at all times where you are seems unnecessary to me because even though truant students should be kept supervised putting a GPS chip on them is going to the extremes. The element of this all is students ditching and not attending school. This isn't a good thing but it can be resolved by doing other things. To restrain their conduct schools should just call their parents to inform them that their kid hasn't attended school. This administers that they're others ways to control the situation besides using a GPS system on students.

Drug sniffing dogs are very helpful to the police since they help with finding out if suspects are carrying illegal drugs or if their innocent. Do I think police officers should have drug sniffing dogs? Well in a way I do think they should carry dogs. This helps them search the suspect if they assume that they have drugs. The process of this is to help citizens to stay away from illegal drugs this includes mostly minors. The  response of this at first might not be good because unfortunely some people are scared of dogs but it should helpful when it comesto proving your innocense if your not carrying drugs with you.

If cows would give root bear instead of milk I would not like cows. I like milk a lot, I drink milk with cereal, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and well pretty much anything. Root bear is not something I like. Iv'e always not been a fan of it since I always felt like it tastes like toothpaste? I wouldn't enjoy the idea that root bear comes from a cow, so milk fits it better.

Would I want to have a car that drives itself? hmm... maybe. Having a car drive itself might have some good qualities to it. For example, it might be a method to be a safer driver. Normal drivers are sometimes distracted or even intoxicated and I think a computerized car might be a smarter driver. Also drivers usually decide to text drive and then car accidents occur. Having the car drive for you will help you not be unfocused while your driving and when you are the car would have your back. This type of technology will help with less accidents on the road and help it proceed into improving safe driving in the future.

The purpose of carrying a concealed hand gun is usually for protection. In my opinion I don't think carrying guns should be something that just anyone can do. For example, there have been a lot of school shootings and most of them have been recent. This happened because the law of being able to buy a hand gun was established. If they are going to have this law then they should justify what type of person  is about be going around carrying a gun. Some people use it for protection and nothing else but accidents do happen so we should try to avoid them. Protection shouldn't only be a gun it could be pepper spray, a taser , or maze. This indicates that there are alternatives for defense.

If there was no television in the world I think that in some ways it would be a good thing for society. For the past years the invention of television has been a huge thing for us. It's something for entertainment and also something to inform us about the world. Television has good qualities to it but also some pretty bad ones. For example, a lot of kids spend their time inside watching television when they could be outside getting exercise. This results in overweight kids. Television is fun but it can be bad so in my opinion television is a good thing but it should not be used often.

Should felons be allowed to vote? I don't think so. Felons are in jail for a reason they either stole killed or even raped. I don't think that people like that should be having the privilege to vote. It is a right but for felons it should be a privilege. The crimes they committed should be a way whether let them vote or not. If they committed that's just minor then they should be able to vote this would only be relevant to do. If they committed something bug like murder or rape then the right should be taken away. Letting felons vote would help be the source of bad presidents. These rules would be something complex to do but it would be affective.

JCCS Academic Language Assessment Week 24 - Online Learning

In my opinion online learning could be a good way to pas or graduate a class or school, but only for certain people. For example, it could be because they live in a very rural areas. This means that getting to school might be a had task. This differentiates if the kid or adult lived in a normal populated place then going to school is easier so they can get education through a classroom. This form of getting an education might be good in some ways but in some ways it can be bad because the student might have some difficulties with the program o the lesson and they might need some clarification from their teacher. This will be difficult because their teacher will not give them one-one attention. This type of learning has some upsides but also some down sides.

Should dog fighting be illegal? I think it should. Dog fighting is a form of animal cruelty and it is not fair for the animal since it can't speak for itself. The way dog fighting is done is by first trainig the dogs since they were  pups and what they to them is horrible. First they use other dogs as what is called bait, they cut off their ears and the other dogs get attracted to their blood and that makes them fight. Most of the time the bait dogs are killed in this process. The bait dog has a distinct smell and thats what drives the other dogs mad. This should be illegal because whe can't let this happen to poor innocent dogs that have so much potential in life. Whe need to stop this since it could be the formula for disaster.

The idea of a dull evening is something that I don't like but i usually have because a dull evening is something that happens very often with me. A dull evening is usually when I don't have anything to do and when I don't have anything i get very bored. I usually after school  go to basketball practice and that keeps me very busy. When there is no basketball practice I have don't have anything to do since my house is not very entertaining. Dull evenings don't usually go by fast either they drag on!

The worst thing a parent can do to their child is abusing them. When I say abusing this includes incest or hitting. These are horrible things that you could to any human being,  especially your own child. Abuse can happen when the parent gets frustrated with their kid, or they simply just feel the need to hit or abuse, and in some situations they even think it's okay. This is obviously not okay because in a way you are ruining your child's life. If a child is abused when they are very young they will most likely grow up to have emotional problems such as anger management, anxiety, and insecurities. Parents should not be harming their child or abusing them they should be the ones protecting them.

Traditionally performance enhancing drugs is used by big athletes like football to get more build and power so that they can do better in the field. In my opinion I don't think performance enhancing drugs like steroids should not be used by any athletes. Athletes should primarily think twice before trying steroids or any other drugs that would make them bigger or faster because these drugs usually have horrible side effects. These usually include mood swings or problems with the brain. This ruins your personal life and I think that's more important than getting bigger. These drugs can really mess you up and not only is it for a little while but it could be for a long period of time.

My favorite month out of all the months is probably July. I like this month because Summer comes during this month also I mostly like this month because this is my birth month. I like how during this month is where there's no school It's always sunny outside, and the days are always perfect to go to the beach. I love the beach It's my favorite place in the world especially when the weather is nice. This is only in July. I don't like the cold I like sunny days because they make me happy.

The best advice iv'e ever received is probably to love myself first then to love others. I think this advice is so important to me because it speaks to me since I have insecurities and its always been something hard to do. This advice was given to me by my aunt. She saw that I had a hard time dealing with issues that I had in life because of things that I have gone through so she told me this to help when I got older. I appreciate this advice because I think that everyone needs to know that because you really can't love anyone if you can't love yourself.

Choices 19B Week 19 1/1

My favorite book of all times is The Hunger Games. I enjoyed reading that book because it was full of suspense and adventure. These are things that I love in a book. I also very much related to the girl in the book also in was full of young romance and well, everyone loves that. Another reason is that it got me into reading since before i hated to read but now that I read that book it opened my eyes to the world of reading. This book was so good that it was turned into a movie, which i watched, I really liked the movie but of course the book will always be better.

In my opinion students should get punished for plagiarizing. Copying someone else's work is definetly not okay since when an assignment is assigned it's asking for your own work not someone else's. I my self have plagiarized and I got punished for it since what I did was wrong. I got assigned an essay responding to a time in history. I got caught copying something online and I paid for the consequences. Plagiarizing is not only bad but, it's in a way taking advantage of someone else's work. Plagiarizing is bad and students shouldn't do it.

HW: Choices 19C Week 19 1/18

My favorite room in the house is the kitchen. I like this room because there's food in that room and well, I'm a food lover. Every day I come from school i go straight to the kitchen and everyone in the house does the same thing. I also like the kitchen because I feel like it brings all the family together when we eat together and when we all just sit at the table and talk about how our day was. The kitchen is where all the magic happens, all the cooking for the holidays and especially in thanks giving. My favorite place is the kitchen & when i grow up I want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen learning how to cook.

JCCS Academic Language Assessment Week 19

In my opinion the United States should help other poor countries recovering from disasters. Our country is very wealthy so we have money to spare. Countries like Haiti are low in money so it is much more difficult for them to recover from disasters like earthquakes & hurricanes and other disasters. People suffer a lot when stuff like this occurs and it is devastating to know how must of their population is youth so their generations would be affected. Another good reason to give help is that in case of a natural disasters happens to us we would hopefully get help from other countries that we helped when they were in need. Our country should be helping other countries not only for the benefits but also for the good deed.

Something that really makes me sad is seeing bad things on the news. It upsets me a lot because there's usually nothing good on the news. There's aways shootings or robbery's going on instead of good positive things like fundraisers or birthdays. For this reason I usually don't enjoy watching the news.

My favorite day of the week would be Friday. I like Friday because it's the final day of the week & after Friday is Saturday. Friday is so great because it's the last day of school & everyone looks forward to that. Plus it's when your parents don't work & they finally have time to spend with you. I also like it because you get to hang out with friends and after the long day you had you get to sleep in the next Saturday.

The best birthday present iv'e ever had would be my first bike. the time i got my bike was when i turned eight years old & everyone in my block had a bike except for me. My dad found out about my birthday wish & he went out and got me the nicest bike that Walmart had. It was pretty & pink and it was exactly what i wanted for my birthday & i will never forget the day i got that bike.

I think teenagers should get special driving restrictions placed on their drivers license so they can acquire  the life skills of an adult. This means that they would learn how to be responsible since driving is something fun but also very dangerous.Being irresponsible with driving can conclude in a bad car crash that could be lethal not only for the driver but also for the passenger and the person getting hit. even though it's part of our culture to start driving at a very young age i think it's okay just as long as the driver had some restrictions in their license.

Junk food should be banned from high school vending machines. For example, this is creating a overweight generation for the future. In addition, this is not benefitting the school at all. It is only benefitting the company who sells the junk food. Also, the students are not receiving the proper nutrition that they need for their developing bodies. In conclusion, junk food should not be allowed in schools. Instead there should be healthier snacks.

My favorite time of the day is the morning. The morning we wake up do everything were supposed to do to get out of the door & then as soon as were done we start with our day. New years finnaly passed & were already in 2013. Unfortunetly 2012 wasn't that good & I had a new years resolution that year as well. It was to be healthier. It didn't work out but this year i'm going to have the same new years resolution but the only difference is that this time i'm going to make it happen.My plan is to lose 30 pounds, it sounds crazy but it's all about being a new me this year & improving in one of the things that has been a problem for me all my life. This year is going to be different & I have a good feeling about this new year.
